Arc Flash & Electrical Safety Study for Major Industrial Facility in India
Power Projects has been awarded a contract to deliver an Arc Flash Study and Electrical Safety Assessment for a large industrial facility in India.
The engagement focuses on evaluating the safety of the facility's electrical distribution system, covering both medium- and low-voltage networks using ETAP-based simulation.
This project further strengthens Power Projects' capability in delivering industrial electrical safety studies and supporting risk mitigation across complex power systems.
Project Overview
Power Projects will undertake an arc flash and electrical safety assessment of an industrial electrical network comprising medium- and low-voltage systems.
The study aims to evaluate arc flash risks, determine incident energy levels, and support safe system operation under fault conditions.
Scope Highlights
The scope includes safety analysis of the electrical distribution network and site-based activities.
Equipment Coverage
- Transformers
- Diesel generators
- Low-voltage systems
Site-Based Activities
- Field data collection
- Thermography assessment
- Arc flash labelling
Aligned with Safety Standards
The assessment will be carried out in accordance with internationally recognised electrical safety standards. The study will identify high-risk areas and define appropriate safety measures to support compliance.
Technical Scope & Methodology
The study will be executed using ETAP-based modelling supported by field validation.
Input Review & Network Modelling
- ETAP model development from plant data
- LV loads and switchgear as lumped loads
- Transformer and DG configuration validation
- System operating conditions review
Arc Flash Analysis
- System operating mode identification
- Short circuit and bolted fault calculations
- Arc current and duration assessment
- Incident energy calculation
- Arc flash boundary determination
- PPE recommendations per NFPA 70E
Thermography & Fire Load

- Fire load calculation for equipment
- Assessment of potential fire risks
Site Implementation & Labelling
- On-site data verification
- Arc flash label preparation and installation
- Boundary marking for safety zones
Project Timeline
The study, including site activities and reporting, will be completed within three weeks from receipt of purchase order and complete input data.
Delivery
Supporting Industrial Electrical Safety
Industrial electrical systems operate under high load and fault conditions, where unmanaged risks can impact personnel and equipment. This study supports:
Identification of high-risk zones across the distribution network
Reduction of arc flash hazards through targeted mitigation
Improved personnel safety with PPE recommendations
Compliance with IEEE 1584-2018 and NFPA 70E standards
Minimisation of equipment damage and unplanned downtime
Increased operational confidence and plant reliability
