Power Projects Secures ERCOT Large Load Interconnection Study for a Large Electronic Load Facility
We are pleased to announce that Power Projects has been awarded an ERCOT Large Load Interconnection Study for a large electronic load facility involving high-demand computational infrastructure.
The study focuses on evaluating the dynamic behaviour of large electronic loads during normal operating conditions and grid disturbances, supporting interconnection compliance and reliable integration with the transmission network.
About the Study
The assignment involves developing a detailed PSCAD Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) model of the electrical facility and assessing its interaction with the grid, transformers, power conversion systems, and dynamic loads.
The analysis will evaluate system response to voltage and frequency disturbances, fault conditions, load switching events, and grid outages. Particular emphasis will be placed on load retention, recovery behaviour, and Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) and High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) performance against applicable interconnection requirements.
Scope of Work
- PSCAD EMT Model Development for the Large Electronic Load Facility
- Grid Interface and Point of Interconnection Modelling
- Interconnection Transformer and Medium-Voltage Distribution System Modelling
- Dynamic Representation of Electronic Loads and Converter-Based Equipment
- Dynamic and Transient Performance Evaluation
- Minimum and Maximum Load Operating Scenarios
- Three-Phase Fault and Voltage Disturbance Analysis
- Frequency Disturbance and Grid Outage Assessment
- Load Switching Event Simulation
- LVRT and HVRT Compliance Assessment
- Voltage Recovery and Load Retention Evaluation
- Post-Disturbance Recovery and Load Tripping Assessment
- ERCOT Technical Documentation and Compliance Submission Support
Key Outcomes
The study will provide insights into the dynamic performance of large electronic loads and their interaction with the connected transmission network under various operating conditions and grid disturbances.
The assessment will help identify potential transient stability concerns, evaluate voltage recovery and load ride-through behaviour, and support the preparation of technical documentation for interconnection compliance review.
This project award further strengthens Power Projects’ expertise in PSCAD EMT Simulations, Large Load Interconnection Studies, Dynamic Performance Assessment, and Grid Compliance Engineering for emerging high-demand computational and electronic load applications.
We thank our client for the trust and opportunity and look forward to delivering technically robust engineering solutions that support reliable grid integration.
