Grid Compliance Study Awarded for Multi-Site Battery Energy Storage Portfolio
RMS and EMT simulations for a portfolio of BESS installations across multiple industrial locations — capacity ranging from less than 1 MWh to more than 16 MWh
Power Projects has been awarded a Grid Compliance Study for a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installations across multiple industrial locations.
The engagement includes detailed RMS and EMT simulations using PSS®E and PSCAD and strengthens Power Projects' capability in utility-scale energy storage integration and grid compliance studies.
Project Overview
The study covers multiple Battery Energy Storage System installations connected to the transmission and distribution network. These assets are deployed across industrial facilities and range in capacity from less than 1 MWh to more than 16 MWh.
The objective is to assess compliance with grid code requirements and verify reliable operation under both normal and disturbed network conditions.
The study will include RMS and EMT level assessment to evaluate performance under grid disturbances.
Technical Scope & Methodology
The study will be executed using PSS®E and PSCAD simulation platforms and is structured across four key assessment areas.
Input Review & Model Development
- Development of RMS and EMT simulation models
- Validation of BESS control parameters and operating limits
- Review of inverter behaviour and control philosophy
- Verification of network configuration and interconnection
Steady-State & Reactive Power Analysis
- Reactive power capability assessment
- Voltage regulation performance
- Operating conditions across different voltage and PF levels
- Reactive power support at the point of connection
Power Quality Assessment
- Harmonic analysis
- DC current injection assessment
- Flicker evaluation
- Compliance against applicable limits
Dynamic & Transient Performance
Dynamic simulations assess system behaviour under grid disturbances:
Supporting Grid Integration of Energy Storage Systems
Battery energy storage systems are increasingly being deployed across modern power networks. Successful integration requires verification of system behaviour across both normal and disturbed operating conditions.
Without appropriate grid compliance assessment, risks may include:
The study supports:
Reliable integration of BESS assets
Compliance with utility requirements
Improved system stability
Streamlined approval processes
Reduced project risk
Enhanced operational confidence
Delivery Timeline
The complete grid compliance study will be delivered within a six-week schedule following receipt of the purchase order and required project inputs, despite the complexity associated with multiple installations and combined RMS and EMT assessment.
