The scope is to conduct site survey and then perform short circuit studies, Relay coordination and Arc Flash studies for a pharmaceutical Laboratory plant. We have already performed Arc flash study for this plant two years ago, but now they have added three transformers to their existing network.
The Plant receives the utility power supply through 33 kV OHL from APSPDCL . The electrical system consists of Two numbers of 6 MVA 33/11kV transformers and Seven numbers of 2.5 MVA 11/0.433kV transformers. When the APSPDCL supply is not available i.e.: Emergency condition, six numbers of 2000kVA, 11kV DG’s is used to feed the system.
The Network comprises 8 numbers of 11 kV panels, Fourteen numbers of PCC panels and Sixty numbers of 0.415 kV MCC distribution panels in which half of panels are newly installed. The plant has LV panels with both MCCBs with thermal magnetic and electronic releases.
New MV switchgears coordination with already coordinated Switchgears was ensured to maintain minimum incident energy . LV Switchgears and MCCs are coordinated well with each other and the fault-clearing time settings are limiting the Incident Energy Levels at a minimum.
The main concern from the plant was, plant has both new distribution panels and Existing well-coordinated panels. So, the main challenge in this project was to analyze the protective device coordination with the fuses , new and old MCCB’s. Hence, we recommended to revise the existing relay settings to the customer.
The revised settings has its impact in the already existing switchgears incident energy. Retaining the coordination in Grid mode and DG mode along with ensuring the minimum possible incident energy is explored wherever possible.
🔸Arc Flash studies were performed at each bus in accordance with IEEE 1584 – 2018, IEEE 1584.1 – 2022, and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was recommended in accordance with NFPA-70E 2021 guidelines.
🔸ETAP 22 software was used to run the simulation produce results.
